"Pain and trauma and heartache are all around us. One of the most important ways we endure the isolation of being on this lonely planet is to lean on one another for assistance. I can't fix things enough for someone else to prevent them from experiencing pain, but I can serve them acts of compassion with as much or as little as I have to offer. The meal prepared from such a meager bounty can truly refill hearts and minds. If I am able to be of service in that way, I might demonstrate I'm worthy of trust and companionship for more than a single meal. That is how we find relief in our dark times. We build community. We invite everyone who wishes to join us at the table for food, drink, and merriment."
